Who qualifies

Are you eligible for the CDCP?

The Canadian Dental Care Plan is the federal dental program for residents who can't get dental insurance elsewhere. In general you can enrol if all of these are true:

  • No access to dental insurance through work, a pension, a union or a privately purchased plan.
  • Adjusted family net income under $90,000.
  • Canadian resident for tax purposes.
  • You filed last year's tax return (and so did your spouse or common-law partner).

Apply through your My Service Canada Account or by phone at 1-833-537-4342. Rules and fees are set by the federal government and change from year to year — check the latest on canada.ca.

CDCP FAQ

Canadian Dental Care Plan questions, answered

Do you accept the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) in Delta?

Yes. Delta Rise Dental accepts the Canadian Dental Care Plan and bills Sun Life directly for covered services, so you only pay your co-payment (if any) and any amount above the CDCP fee schedule. We'll tell you exactly what that is before treatment.

Who qualifies for the CDCP?

You generally qualify if you don't have access to private dental insurance, your adjusted family net income is under $90,000, you are a Canadian resident for tax purposes, and you (and your spouse or partner) filed last year's tax return. Confirm your eligibility on canada.ca.

How much will I pay with CDCP?

It depends on your adjusted family net income: under $70,000 there is no co-payment, $70,000 to $89,999 you pay a 40% or 60% co-payment. There may also be a charge if a fee is above the CDCP schedule or a service isn't covered. We give you an itemized estimate first.

What does the CDCP cover?

Preventive care (exams, X-rays, cleanings, fluoride), fillings, root canals, extractions, crowns and dentures, some with preauthorization. Cosmetic treatments such as whitening and veneers, implants, and orthodontics (braces and Invisalign) are not currently covered.

Do children qualify for CDCP?

Yes, eligible children are covered under the family's application. We see kids from their first tooth and accept CDCP for children's check-ups, cleanings, sealants and fillings.

What do I need to bring to my first CDCP visit?

Bring your CDCP member card or member ID from Sun Life and photo ID. We'll check your coverage, request any preauthorizations, and bill Sun Life directly.
